Talented York resident Sonia Gillis age 33 was found dead in her home at 8, Eighth Road York on Friday 13th of March. Her death was to believed to be the result of natural causes. Sonia was a top class chalk and crayon artist and an extremely gifted singer and songwriter. Sonia battled Mental Illness, depression and drug and alcohol problems and had tried many times unsuccessfully to rehabilitate herself. Sonia was once married to an Alice Springs police officer, but they were estranged. Sonia's vibrant and outgoing personality and love of animals and her friends alike will be sorely missed by those who knew her. Sonia is survived by her parents Rod and Shirley who live near Geraldton, a brother Brad who is a police officer and at least one sister, she had two young children Kyle and Tegan Rest in Peace Sonia, I will always remember you mate. This is the Gillis family requesting that you remove this blog immediately, as we find it offensive and inaccurate with ramofications that you would not even be remotely aware of. You have posted this without any thought to Sonia or her children, or with any consultation with Sonia's family. Please remove this. Rod.
ReplyDeleteI have made alterations to it but I will not remove it, you haven't bothered to tell anybody anything or have an open funeral, I know it is just a matter you would like forgotten and as for the kids, this won't affect them, so it's on the internet, Sonia wanted it that way. Sonia did have friends you know and they are all just ignored. I want Sonia to be remembered. Censorship is not legal in Australia. Sonia was an adult, I don't need permission from her family to say what needs to be said.

ReplyDeleteI spoke to Sonia on numerous occasions before her death, she felt extremely lonely and isolated and missed her children, she was excited at seeing them but it was only for one hour, it didn't help that her parents moved to Geraldton, she seemed to go downhill when the kids and her family moved away, she also missed TK the dog. I would ask what are the parents trying to hide, the kids have already gone through hell, reading this won't add to their sorrow, it may even help them as many people knew and loved Sonia, they would be in touch with people who knew what made Sonia tick and what she was going through. I think getting Sonias passing out in the open may even help others, Sonia seemed to have slipped through the cracks she needed help yet she had a loving caring family- where were they?
ReplyDeleteRod and Shirley, I am well aware that you and the family must be going through hell right now, I must say that my heartfelt sympathy is with you and the children. What you went through over the years with Sonia I can never begin to imagine but she is at peace now. Note that I still have a recording of her singing that song we put together, I will send you a copy. Eventually it will be on my Myspace music page so everybody can listen to it. I hope the kids are doing OK under the circumstances.

DeleteTrevor....you also had plenty to say on a blog relating to the death / disappearance of Sharon Mason in 1983 and the possible guilt or otherwise of the man doing time for her death, Mr Greer. You put your two cents worth in on that issue without knowing the family, the Masons, as I did...I worked with Sharons'late father Mick in the Seventies. You have a habit of expressing your opinions as fact.....and this hurts people.
ReplyDeleteYeah what's your point Terry? I was supporting the Mason's as I served time with Greer, Greer has been found guilty. Obviously you know it's my opinion but Greer's guilt is also fact at the moment. As far as hurting people goes I suppose I shouldn't mention your devious and reprehensible actions in supporting Sandra O'Brien as chairperson of York FM, you were one of her grovelling little sycophants. I especially remember your pressure to make sure your relative who owns the local Northam paper didn't print any negative stories about York FM. Australians fought in the Second World war to stop this sort of censorship, and you are a school teacher, that worries me. O'Brien shafted you in the end though. You might like to know that I am doing a degree in journalism and am now writing my second book. If I didn't write every time it might hurt people I would never write at all. My personal opinion of you is that you are a devious, despicable little scum bag, have a nice day!
